Canberra’s Midnight Hotel welcomes first guests

Australia's capital city has welcomed its first Marriott International hotel.

Marriott International’s first Canberra property, Midnight Hotel, has opened its doors today, 24 September 2019.

Midnight Hotel, part of the Autograph Collection, brings 199 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar to Braddon, adjacent to Canberra’s CBD.

Sean Hunt, area vice president, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific at Marriott International said the opening marks a significant milestone for the group and the Autograph portfolio.

“Celebrating the world’s most distinctive independent hotels around the globe, each hotel in the Autograph Collection is a product of vision, handpicked for its mark of craft, heartfelt design and authentic sense of place,” he said.

“These principles guide the curation of the portfolio, ensuring each hotel experience is remarkably unlike anything else.”

Owned and operated by Iconic Hotels, Midnight Hotel forms part of mixed-use precinct and is surrounded by commercial and retail spaces, and a host of restaurants and bars.

The hotel can cater for conferences and events, with a range of spaces on offer including The Conservatory for groups of up to 120, two private boardrooms and a business lounge.

The hotel has been designed by Australian architects Fender Katsalidis and features a highly sculptural and contemporary design. Polished concrete, glass and metal are features of the space, while each guest room features a custom artwork designed by artist Thomas Bucich.

The on-site restaurant, Braddon Merchant, is a bright, modern deli-style eatery with a European feel, offering fresh, simple dishes, deli produce and to-go options.

Complementing this setting, Midnight Bar offers a more dark and moody atmosphere with a carefully curated list of local and international wines, cocktails and beers. Midnight Be can also be hired for events, with capacity for 150 guests inside and 150 outside.

Iconic Hotels general manager Rien Donkin said Midnight Hotel is the first premium brand delivered by the company.

“Midnight Hotel is unique in design, thoughtful in spirit and affords a prime inner-city location with exemplary guest service,” he said.

“We are proud to be recognised as part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection and excited to share our city’s story with our global guests.”
