The former museum on Mandurah’s foreshore is currently undergoing renovation to convert it into a convention centre.

A spokesperson told SPICE that the renovations are minimal as the centre was structurally ideal to be turned into a convention centre.

The new Mandurah Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) that soft launched in December 2013 can now cater for meetings for up to 1200 (theatre), 700 (banquet) and has a main hall, seven breakout rooms, two boardrooms, a cafe and over 900 square metres of exhibition space.

Perth Convention Bureau CEO Paul Beeson said, “Mandurah is a key developing region for business events in Western Australia. The city and its Mayor, Marina Vergone, have clearly identified the value this sector represents.

“With Western Australia attracting increasing numbers of business events, demand for corporate meetings, small conferences, and pre and post touring options in unique locations is strong and, with the addition of MCEC, the Mandurah Peel region is in an excellent position to capitalise on this demand”.
