The Exhibition & Events Association of Australasia (EEAA) was yesterday advised by Infrastructure NSW that it had terminated negotiations with Sydney Harbour Expo for the creation of temporary exhibition facilities at Glebe Island.
“We have been advised that after lengthy negotiations, satisfactory arrangements could not be concluded,” said EEAA general Manager, Joyce DiMascio in a statement sent to Associtaion members.
Sydney International Convention Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (SICEEP) project director, Tim Parker has assured the industry that temporary facilities will be in place at Glebe Island for the start of the 2014 exhibition season.

DiMascio added, “Rest assured, EEAA will continue to represent the needs of the industry. We are most concerned about these developments and will be working with the Government and Infrastructure NSW to ensure their commitment to delivering a suitable temporary site during the redevelopment of Darling Harbour is honoured.”
Infrastructure NSW has begun negotiations with GL Events to build the new facility and operators AEG Ogden.
GL Event was one of the companies that submitted a bid when the Government issued the RFP for Glebe Island exhibition facilities. AEG Ogden will be the operators of the new centre at Darling Harbour.
“We know this decision by Infrastructure NSW will be very disappointing for our members…who have worked very hard over the past 6 months to come up with a positive solution for the industry,” DiMascio said, adding that the EEAA would continue to keep the industry informed of further devlopments.
