Hot hotel: Hyatt Regency Sydney

Did you know that the new recently rebranded, refurbished and expanded Hyatt Regency at Darling Harbour Sydney is the largest hotel, by room number, in Australia?

With 892 guest rooms, as well as two function spaces with 1000-pax capacity and pre-function spaces that can run separate events concurrently, Hyatt Regency is the big mama of event hotels.

With a recently opened rear access point (on the water side), it is now a seven minute stroll from the hotel to the International Convention Centre Sydney, making it an ideal option for large group bookings.

What you may not know is that Zephyr Bar on Level 12 of the hotel is the hottest bar in the city. With room for 300 people, and the option of exclusive use or a roped-off VIP area, prior planning is recommended as there is a line to get in at peak times.

Grant Collins – formerly from Hilton’s Zeta Bar – is behind the cocktail list and there is also a stellar list of wines by the glass and premium beers. With views over Darling Harbour, this is a top spot for sundowners, New Year’s Eve fireworks or Vivid Sydney viewing.

Another thing to note is that Club floor guests gain access to the Regency Club Lounge on Level 11, with all bookings including one hour’s complimentary use of the boardroom, complete with wrap-around water views that will wow even the most world-weary executives.

Designed by Bates Smart to resemble the interior of a ship, the Regency Club Lounge is a sleek, elegant space that offers complimentary drinks and canap├ęs in the evening, breakfast – including an egg station – in the morning, all day refreshments, free newspapers and the option of bringing guests for an additional charge.

Hyatt Regency Sydney is situated at 161 Sussex Street, Sydney.
