Food, wine and ‘knowledge economy’ the leading themes at Dreamtime 2013

The prevailing message from day one of Tourism Australia’s biennial Dreamtime conference was that food and wine is the number one selling point and that Australia’s ‘knowledge economy’ is the new focus for business events.

Australian chefs Guy Grossi, Shannon Bennett and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre’s (MCEC) Tony Panetta wowed Dreamtime 2013 delegates yesterday with quirky, provenance-focused menus featuring oddities such as emu jerky and wallaby carpaccio.

Professor Ian Chubb is the Business Events Week 2014 ambassador

At a lunch at Vue Events, Melbourne Convention Bureau CEO Karen Bolinger also revealed that Professor Ian Chubb, Australia’s chief scientist will be the ambassador for Business Events Week 2014.

Professor Chubb sits on the board of the Climate Change Authority and has been an outspoken advocate on the importance of science to Australia’s economy for over three decades.

This announcement follows on from the opening of South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) next door to the Adelaide Convention Centre late last week providing further proof that the alliance between science and business events will only continue to grow.
