The Como Melbourne gets a new look

With a glamorous history and legendary rockstar following, Melbourne’s iconic 5-star hotel, The Como Melbourne is back, looking better than ever.

Following its multi-million dollar refurbishment program, The Como Melbourne will become part of Accor’s exclusive MGallery collection of hotels.

The MGallery collection comprises almost 50 hotels around the world, including Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains and The Grand Hotel in Melbourne. Following Accor’s acquisition of the Mirvac hotel portfolio, at least five more hotels will join the exclusive MGallery collection, with Sydney’s 4.5-star Harbour Rocks Hotel and Melbourne’s Hotel Lindrum to rebrand before 2013.

Refurbished and joining the MGallery brand, The Como Melbourne.

As part of the hotel’s multi-million dollar renovation, all of the 107 the rooms have been completely transformed by Melbourne-based interior designers Elsie+Betty, with chic wall murals a feature, as well as new bedding packages, bold lighting and modern furniture. All of the spacious guestrooms feature new, high gloss kitchens.

Stylish enhancements to the general public areas as well as quirky hallway seating and striking artwork add to the 5-star hotel experience.

The hotel’s three signature penthouses are set to be the most sought after accommodation offerings in Melbourne and each suite has been totally renovated and styled to suit three themes: ‘Pearl’, ‘Gems’ and ‘Gold’.

The hotel’s naturally lit indoor swimming pool with retractable roof remains one of the centrepieces of the hotel.

The Pearl penthouse will embody an elegant and timeless design, with soft, neutral tones complementing classic, rich furnishings. The Gems suite will boast a colourful palette with bold splashes of colour and funky decorative elements.

The baby grand piano which singer Robbie Williams famously played on as he entertained his entourage will reclaim its position in the Gold penthouse and will sit alongside bold furnishings from Space furniture.

Other guests who have been known to tinkle the baby grand ivories include Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen, Michael Bublé and the legendary Bruce Springsteen.

General manager for The Como Melbourne, Anne Marie Lennon, said the refurbishment and rebrand to MGallery will breathe new life into the hotel. “The Como Melbourne has forever been a landmark hotel for many Australians, particularly Melbournians and for a large contingent of international guests.

“The renovation places The Como back in a winning position with discerning travellers and the enhancements guests will experience as a result of the hotel becoming part of the MGallery collection is going to be very exciting to see.”

The hotel’s naturally lit indoor swimming pool with retractable roof remains one of the centrepieces of the hotel, while the hotel’s bustling SOBar is still a favourite watering hole for a late night night-cap.
