PCEC gears up to receive world leaders and the Queen

More than 50 world leaders and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will converge on Perth in late October for the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

More than 50 world leaders and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will converge on Perth in late October for the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Planning at the event’s principle venue – Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) is now complete and works are underway to deliver the suite of services this nation-shaping event requires.

PCEC is all set to host more than 50 world leaders and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for one of the most logistically challenging event, the 2011 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM)

PCEC Chief Executive Officer, Dean Lee, stated CHOGM was the most logistically challenging event ever hosted in Perth.

“The 18-month planning phase has required over 150 separate meetings with the CHOGM Taskforce and various, state, national and international agencies and delegations. It’s now time to deliver on those arrangements,” Lee said.

Preparations for the event have included development of new uniforms, upgrading banqueting and service equipment and installation of major Australian art pieces by Western Australian based Nadeen Lovell and Brendon Darby.

More than 3,000 delegates and 1,000 media representatives are expected to attend this biennial event placing the international spotlight on PCEC and Perth, and proving the city’s capability as a global business event destination.

“As the host venue for the Opening Ceremony and Heads of Government meetings we carry a responsibility on behalf of Australia to ensure delegates have a positive experience,” Lee stated.

The Economist’s Intelligence Unit again recently judged Perth one of the world’s most liveable cities. CHOGM is expected to inject over $50 million into the Western Australian economy.
