British Airways Marks 90 Years Of Flying

British Airways has reached another milestone in the company’s extensive history, by marking 90 years of flying earlier this week (Aug 25).

British Airways is celebrating 90 years of flying

On August 25, 1919 the world’s first daily international air service was launched from London to Paris, operated by Air Transport and Travel Ltd, a precursor to British Airways, and since then, the airline has carried more than 1.2 billion customers on its extensive network.

Next year, the milestones continue as the airline then celebrates 75 years of flying down under. On April 20, 1935 the first flight took off from London and touched down 12 days later in Brisbane.

Paying tribute to the airline, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: “British Airways has never lost the pioneering spirit and vision that saw it take to the skies with the world’s first daily international flight from London to Paris on this day in 1919.

“Ninety years on, the world’s most iconic airline is still proudly flying the flag and remains a great British brand. Many congratulations to all staff, past and present, on this special day,” he said.

In related news, British Airways has once more teamed up with Nova 969’s ‘Merrick and Rosso and Kate Ritchie show’ as they broadcast their breakfast show from the UK for a week.

In conjunction with the broadcast, the airline is giving away five double World Traveller tickets to the UK every day for a week.

The promotion ties in with BA’s ‘Sydney to London for $1749’ offer which includes a free European side trip.

“After our best ever result, off the back of the 2008 consumer promotion Mile Thai Club (with Nova 969), it meant that we once again turned to Nova to produce an integrated solution that would spread awareness of the exciting fare deal British Airways has to offer and also to let Australians experience everything that’s fantastic about the UK,” said British Airways’ regional commercial manager – South West Pacific, Sam Heine.

In addition to Nova’s boarding call promotion, British Airways will also be offering one lucky listener a single ticket to join the Merrick, Rosso and Kate in the UK.
