Leo Sayer and Japanese Fish Turn Heads at Hotel Launch

By Gwen O’Toole

What do Japanese Koi and international musician Leo Sayer have in common? Both entertained guests at the official opening of The Sebel Surry Hills Sydney on Thursday (Apr 16).

Formerly known as the Citigate Sebel Sydney, the hotel’s recent $20 million refurbishment has made it the latest 4.5-star in Sydney and the country’s first hotel to feature an in-ground glass aquarium in the lobby.

The lobby at the Sebel Surry HIlls features a 41,000-
litre under-floor aquarium

The 270-room property is also home to the Townhouse Bar & Restaurant — named after the iconic Sebel Townhouse in Elizabeth Bay. It  features memorabilia from the legendary Sebel Townhouse bar, including autographed black and white photographs that pay homage to the famous hotel’s long history of celebrity guests.
