The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today (July 26) nudged ahead of regional counterparts Suntec Singapore and the Hong Kong Convention Centre to win its second consecutive Best Exhibition and Convention Centre in Asia award at the TravelWeekly (Asia) Industry Awards 2008 held in Singapore.

“Winning the award for the second year in a row is true testimony to the importance of teamwork and how much Malaysians, with an international edge, are capable of achieving,” said Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre general manager, Peter Brokenshire.

“This triumph must be shared with our Team Malaysia partners Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), who have worked tirelessly with the Centre to actively promote the country, Malaysia, the city,

Kuala Lumpur and its supporting infrastructure, and in turn, our venue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, as one of the region’s leading convention destinations. Indeed, this is a win for Malaysia.”

Nomination criteria for the category of ‘Best Exhibition and Convention Centre’ were based on superior products and excellent service, outstanding efforts and professionalism, fulfilling promises to customers, ability to react and adapt to market changes and customer-focused, innovativeness in products and services.

Since its official opening in June 2005, the Centre has grown from strength to strength. In 2007 it saw 32 per cent growth over 2006 for the total number of events held and an increase by 26 per cent in number of delegates. This equates to 628 events attended by over 2.1 million people.
